Photon Vault Energy Storage System | 3D Animation
CASE STUDY: Photon Vault Energy Storage System | 3D Animation by IMMIX Productions
Client: Photon Vault
Sector: Clean Energy | Grid-Scale Thermal Storage | Renewable Infrastructure
Project: Full-System Cinematic Visualization for Technical Engagement & Investor Education
Overview
When Photon Vault—a pioneering thermal energy storage company—set out to visually communicate its cutting-edge system to investors, partners, and utilities, it needed more than a diagram or slide deck. The challenge was to explain a multi-stage, closed-loop energy system that utilizes compressed CO₂, solar thermal collectors, patented heat bricks, and ice tanks—all in one cohesive visual experience.
To meet that challenge, IMMIX Productions developed a Cinematic 7-minute 3D Animation that would bring the Photon Vault system to life with clarity, credibility, and visual impact. The result is a dynamic, flyover-driven narrative that simplifies complex engineering and inspires engagement at every level of the energy sector.
Client Goals
Photon Vault’s mission is to revolutionize how energy is stored—bridging the gap between intermittent renewables and round-the-clock reliability. Their thermal-based solution provides a profitable, scalable alternative to lithium-ion batteries for durations ranging from 4 to 100+ hours, all without requiring subsidies. To support their outreach and investor relations, Photon Vault needed an animation that would:
- Visually map the energy cycle from charge to discharge
- Demonstrate system components with technical accuracy
- Appeal to both scientific and non-technical stakeholders
- Establish visual credibility and brand alignment
- Support use across digital presentations, investor decks, events, and web
Our Approach
IMMIX brought a strategic blend of cinematic storytelling, technical fidelity, and visual clarity to the project, using proven animation workflows refined across two decades of energy-sector visualization.
🔍 1. Discovery and Technical Integration
IMMIX worked closely with Photon Vault to understand the system’s operational logic and energy principles. Our team reviewed:
- Internal documentation
- Engineering references
- System schematics
- 3D CAD models and branding guidelines
This discovery process ensured every element—from the stainless steel CO₂ tubing to the composite thermal bricks, represented with accuracy and purpose.
🎥 2. Cinematic Flyover Storytelling
The animation is structured around a guided flyover of the full system, with camera paths designed to walk the viewer through key subsystems:
- Compressor
- Solar Collector Field
- Hot Brick Store
- Ice Tanks
- CO₂ Turbomachinery and Generator
Transitions are fluid and informative, while annotated callouts and voiceover narration help orient viewers at every stage of the energy cycle.
🧱 3. Advanced 3D & Motion Graphics Integration
IMMIX’s animation team optimized Photon Vault’s supplied 3D models, added scene lighting and texturing, and animated CO₂ flows, temperature transitions, and component interactions. We layered 2D motion graphics to display:
- Energy inputs and outputs
- Charging vs discharging cycles
- Dynamic state changes (e.g., freezing water into ice, heating bricks)
🔊 4. Voiceover & Sound Design
A clear and confident voiceover anchors the script—ensuring the video resonates with audiences across technical, financial, and operational backgrounds. IMMIX incorporated a subtle background music and sound design to elevate the cinematic tone without distraction.
Animation Highlights:
- How the Photon Vault charges using both electricity and solar thermal heat
- The role of CO₂ as a closed-loop working fluid
- The mechanics behind heat storage in sand-and-graphite bricks
- How ice-making plays a role in cooling the CO₂ for discharge
- The step-by-step discharge process to generate electricity via a CO₂-driven turbine
- Why the system is efficient, flexible, and scalable to utility-grade infrastructure
Impact & Outcomes
The completed 3D animation is now a core component of Photon Vault’s engagement toolkit—used for:
- Investor presentations and board meetings
- Conference exhibits and technical panels
- Online demos and educational materials
- Stakeholder onboarding across utilities and energy transition partners
By providing an intuitive and technically faithful walkthrough, IMMIX helped Photon Vault gain visibility, build trust, and secure strategic interest from key industry stakeholders. The animation also serves as a scalable asset for future pitches, digital campaigns, and educational outreach.
