ZEEM Solutions: Newark Charging Station Animation and VR Walk-Through

CASE STUDY: Immersive Infrastructure Visualization for ZEEM Solutions

Overview

As commercial fleet electrification accelerates across the United States, infrastructure providers must communicate increasingly complex systems to investors, fleet operators, and industry stakeholders. Demonstrating the scale, energy integration, and operational flow of a charging depot requires more than static renderings — it requires spatial understanding.

When ZEEM Solutions prepared to showcase its Newark EV charging depot concept at the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo (ACT Expo) in Las Vegas, the objective was to present its infrastructure vision with clarity, credibility, and impact. The organization required an engagement platform capable of attracting decision-makers and supporting high-value discussions in a competitive exhibition environment.

IMMIX Productions developed a fully interactive VR walk-through that transformed detailed infrastructure planning into a navigable, immersive experience.

The Client ( ZEEM Solutions )

Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Inglewood, California, ZEEM Solutions is a nationwide EV charging infrastructure provider and asset manager focused on commercial fleet electrification. The company designs, builds, owns, and operates shared charging depots strategically positioned near major logistics hubs such as airports, ports, and distribution corridors.

Its vertically integrated service model includes modular charging and energy management systems, fleet electrification consulting, EV financing solutions, and fleet management services — enabling operators to transition to zero-emission transportation while maintaining operational continuity.

The Newark depot represents a strategic expansion within the company’s national growth strategy.

The Challenge

The project required more than a visual overview. It needed to communicate how infrastructure components function together as an integrated operational ecosystem.

Specifically, the solution had to:

  • Capture attention within a crowded exhibition hall
  • Clearly demonstrate charging layout, power integration, and traffic flow
  • Support investor- and fleet-level dialogue
  • Reinforce scalability and execution readiness

Static visuals could not deliver the level of spatial clarity or engagement required. Immersion became the differentiator.

IMMIX’s Creative & Technical Approach

IMMIX developed a standalone VR experience optimized for Meta Quest hardware and delivered as a Windows-based installation. Rather than presenting a passive flythrough, the team engineered a real-time interactive environment allowing users to explore the Newark depot at their own pace.

Core Experience Features

  • Teleportation and locomotion navigation
  • Handheld controller interaction
  • Invisible boundary constraints for guided exploration
  • Real-time lighting and environmental refinement
  • Detailed material texturing for operational realism

This architecture ensured the experience felt intuitive, stable, and authentic within a live trade show setting.

Environment Development & Infrastructure Modeling

To communicate full operational context, IMMIX modeled both the charging infrastructure and the surrounding regional environment.

The digital environment incorporated:

  • Regional bridges, rail structures, and roadway access
  • Substation and power infrastructure components
  • Solar-integrated lighting systems and battery storage units
  • Secure access points, traffic circulation, and staging zones

A background cityscape and atmospheric skydome grounded the facility within its broader logistical landscape. Each asset was optimized to balance visual fidelity with VR performance stability, ensuring smooth real-time interaction during exhibition deployment.

Trade Show Deployment at ACT Expo

The Advanced Clean Transportation Expo ( ACT Expo ) at the Las Vegas Convention Center provided the ideal platform for deployment. ACT Expo convenes fleet executives, infrastructure developers, OEMs, investors, and policymakers within a highly competitive exhibition environment.

At the booth, attendees entered the Newark depot virtually and navigated the facility in real time using VR hardware and controllers. Through movement and perspective, users gained intuitive spatial understanding of:

  • Charging layout and vehicle staging
  • Power system integration
  • Site access and operational logic
  • Scalability and expansion potential

Rather than explaining the concept abstractly, the team allowed stakeholders to experience it firsthand. This experiential approach created a natural transition into deeper discussions regarding readiness, scalability, and long-term growth.

The activation generated strong booth traffic, extended visitor engagement, and positive feedback from both attendees and executive leadership.

Real-Time VR Walk-Through Capture for Case Study Documentation

To ensure the project could be clearly communicated beyond the trade show floor, IMMIX produced a real-time screen capture of the VR experience specifically for case study documentation.

During ACT Expo, attendees interacted with the environment immersively through VR hardware. The screen recording was created separately to document authentic user-controlled navigation and provide clarity for digital audiences without headset access.

This capture demonstrates how infrastructure scale and operational logic unfold through movement and perspective, translating immersion into an accessible format while preserving the integrity of the live deployment.

Production Framework

The project followed a disciplined and accelerated production structure aligned with exhibition deadlines.

Key phases included:

  • Requirements analysis aligned to ACT Expo objectives
  • Detailed 3D modeling and environment optimization
  • Real-time navigation programming and interface refinement
  • Milestone approvals and final build validation

Through coordinated workflows and focused execution, IMMIX delivered the complete experience within a two-week production window.

The Result

The Newark Charging Station Animation & VR Walk-Through delivered a differentiated engagement platform that elevated how the infrastructure vision was communicated.

Through immersive exploration, stakeholders were able to understand site layout, operational flow, and system integration with clarity and confidence. Conversations shifted from abstract descriptions to spatial comprehension, strengthening investor dialogue and reinforcing execution credibility.

The activation distinguished the booth within a competitive exhibition hall and generated sustained engagement throughout ACT Expo. Beyond the event, the experience continues to serve as a scalable communication asset supporting investor presentations, strategic discussions, and expansion initiatives.
